On Wednesday 23rd November 2011, a friend and I took a trip to London to visit galleries and museums for our trend project 'Threads'.
I wanted to find inspiration and research for my four trends: Interplanetary Crusader, Coalition Command, Submerged Fibres and Grisly Distress.
The V&A
Unfortunately, there was nothing really relevant for any of my trends in the V&A, but we did have a look at 'The Power of Making' exhibition, where you can find details about here, and is well worth a visit.
Next, we went to the Science Museum, where we were greeted (attacked) by lots of large groups of tiny, excitable school children!
The ground floor was quite interesting, with displays on space exploration, the world & the universe, although not relevant project-wise
We somehow managed to get lost whilst trying to find floors 4 & 5, and found ourselves in the 'future' exhibition
after going up and down various lifts, and eventually going back to reception to ask how to get to floors 4 & 5, (only the lift in the centre of the building takes you there!) we managed to find 'Glimpses of Medical History' - quite gruesome: perfect for my chosen trend: 'Grisly Distress' (floor 4) and 'The Science and Art of Medicine', which was also relevant (floor 5)

After lunch, the original plan was to go to Portobello Market, then Spitalfields (despite both being on complete opposite sides of the map!) finally ending up at Camden, to get the train back to Brum from Euston, but due to network problems on the underground (and Portobello being closed!), we ended up in a very cute little book shop just off Portobello Road, where I managed to find some amazing old comic books for my 'Interplanetary Crusader' trend
Just before we ran to catch our train (and a very quick starter for dinner at Prezzo (here) with my big sister!), we popped over to Camden Town to have a brief look at the market to see if there was anything relevant for our projects. Unfortunately we didn't find anything (other than a superhero style flyer for a gig night!) but the Christmas lights in the market I thought were very cute!
