Tailoring Techniques
The Module aims to build on basic technical skills acquired in level 4 and advance technical knowledge, particularly in relation to tailored garments.
The Tailoring project will start with 6 tailoring techniques sessions which will cover the advanced manufacturing skills required within tailored garments.
Below are some of the images of the construction of my half tailored jacket

Brief
As Communication students, you will be asked to forecast key tailoring trends for AW 2011/2012 and document this through a series of illustrations, photography and core research. You must endeavour to create a visual package pitched at a specific market within the fashion arena.
I began by looking at images that I found interesting and inspiring on ffffound.com
I think the colours in this are brilliant

I love this illustration. It's playful and childlike. After a closer look, I noticed that there are two separate images in one. I think this image has a number of different meanings behind it; It could be that the crocodiles are about to eat the elephant; or that the elephant and crocodiles are merely playing in the water as friends! The top of the image has a much more historical feel to it and is less playful but still ties in well with the bottom of the image. It reminds me of Fantasia - The Rite of Spring and Evolution in general.
Below is some more work from Tang Yau Hoong in the same sort of style

Tang Yau Hoong's work reminded me of some t-shirt designs by Anton Weflö; a Swedish image-maker currently based in Stockholm, Sweden. He enjoys scribbling and drawing aswell as working with graphics which he is happily devoted to. His work is equally as playful and bright, but I particularly love the '70s green colours in this image below.

I love the happiness of this image, and think the lines are really interesting
Multifucntional, Useful and Hardwearing with Heritage fabrics
I then went on to look at images from trendhunter.com
Latte Art
I love the colours in this. I also like how a lot of work went into the photo before it was taken
Mythical Creatures
I love the colours in this photo and also how the image isn’t normal. It’s really interesting to look at
Rebellious outdoor photography
I love the colours and depth of field in this photo. I also like images with smoking in them. Many people believe that smoking in photographs is glamorising smoking and encouranging lung cancer, but it's the shapes and images the smoke in particular creates when blown out, as well as the elegance in the fingers when the cigarette is held.
Soul searching portraiture
I love how this image looks like one thing but is suggesting something else. I like the shapes made by the smoke.
Intimate portrait photography
I like the beauty, colours and femininity in this image.
Hair-raising surrealism
I love this image. It reminds me of autumn and skeleton leaves. I think the colours are really nice.
Living life photography
I love the detail in this image and how it creates nostalgia and is very thought provoking.
Global Nomad photography
I love the colours, delicateness and beauty of this image.
I noticed that a lot of the images I liked have a strong link with playfulness, heritage fabrics, dreamlike states, surrealism, escapism, and are out of context and quite kitch.
I Decided to look at the Artist Erwin Wurm, because I think his surrealist aspect of his work links really well to my concept. A lot of his pieces make the audience feel quite uneasy, such as the image below. However, other pieces are just really interesting to look at, as the shapes and ideas behind them are intriguing.

This quirky image reminds me of the heritage lifestyle. My Concepts will link partly to heritage and traditional imagery, so this is quite topical.

This, again links to my surrealist concept. the bold, bright red colour of the car could be a strong trend for AW 2011.

I love the strong '70s aspect of this VW Van. I think the colour is amazing and is also a strong contender for AW 2011 colour trends.
Linking back to my '70s inspired concept, I decided to look at the clothing company YMC (www.youmustcreate.com).
The two images above have a strong link to Heriatge which is one of my key trends. The lighting and colours of the clothing also links very well with my other trend inspired by the '70s.
The two above images are very Heritage linked. The fabrics and overall look of the objects captured in each image link well with my 'Multicultural Heritage' trend.
As well as looking at artists and fashion, I decided to look at music, band images and album covers. I think music is, and always has, played a strong part in swaying fashion trends. Especially that of the Indie/Alternative persuasion.
I found some images of the band 'Corelli' which really link well with my concepts.
1.
2.
3.
4.
The overall look of Corelli's photoshoot was inspired by the Mystery Jet's album cover, which is featured below:
I found these band pictures really inspiring. Image 3 links strongly with the surrealist images I looked at earlier on, whereas images 1, 2 and 4 have a livingroom set up in a forest, which looks really out of context. I like the kitch, heritage feel of this, with the stong link to home interiors. It reminded me of this image
I love the kitch-ness of this image and think the wallpaper, general decor and overal style is amazing!
Following this, I decided to look at other examples of '60s and '70s home interiors, as I think this could be a strong trend to work with.
I love the detailed patterns, thick heavy fabrics and overal style used in these images.
Trend Book Narratives
Surreal Exuberance
Lavish or elaborate, often to the point of being excessive, this happy and vibrant trend bounces between dreamlike states and out of context escapism. Childlike and playful; Candid and lively; Spirited and fun. Think ‘60s and ‘70s patterns and colours mixed with soft, playful fabrics. Delicate beauty, clashes with strong colour blocking and clashing patterns. Silhouettes are boxy and blocked, masculine and tailored.
Multi-functional Heritage
A way of life or traditional culture, being passed from generation to generation; this trend mixes the old and treasured with a new kind of everyday wear and tear. Think home furnishings mixed with everyday clothing. Carpet trousers, leather shirts, wax shoes and tweed accessories. Silhouettes are inspired by old tailoring and traditional masculine suiting. Hardwearing and tough, this clothing really will last generations.
